Hello and welcome to another review! I decided to review a television series that has recently re-runned its first season called Sleepy Hollow. I wanted to share my opinion of it.
Alright, firstly the story. Basically the show is a huge twist on the legend of Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman. Crane is brought to life by a spell cast on him by his wife, a witch named Katrina, that caused him to remain in a sleep like death for 200 years. He wakes up in the present time and rises from the grave. With his awakening came the rise of the horseman of death a.k.a the headless horseman. He meets a police lieutenant named Abby Mills and they join forces to stop the horseman and all the evil to come with him. Personally, I think the fact that it is a spinoff of a story I have heard many times in my childhood is what grasped my attention to it. Then as I watched one episode after the next, I was hooked. Frankly the story line is very interesting. I have a huge appeal to the supernatural stories, and this one is quite the story. It makes me look forward to every episode. Bottom line it has the same affect a good book would have on me, leaves me eager to know more and impatiently waiting for the next chapter/episode. I also like the fact that even though this is a mystery series, it has its fair share of comedic scenes, and some drama and action. It has a great balance of these genres that makes me laugh at every comedic scene.
Second, the casting. We'll, of course, start with the main characters. First off, Ichabod Crane, played by Tom Mison. I actually haven't known his acting career before this show, but he is quite talented here. He pulls off the character of a man that lived in the 1700's and woke up in 2013 finding a world that he is utterly baffled by. The way he portrays is makes me empathise with him, and yelling out "I know right?!" So as for the actor choice, I'd say its a fitting one. Moving on to Abby Mills played by Nicole Beharie, whom I'm not familiar with either. She has a strange acting persona that I can't really describe. Most of the time she appears quite serious. Her eyes are constantly focused and her speech is clear and precise when she has that demeanor. But at the scenes when she's not as serious she can sometimes look sincere or happy. In my personal opinion she doesn't quite tug my heart strings when she's either. Its like she's really trying to or she can hold on to that facial expression for so long. Her serious demeanor takes over most of the time. There are two other main cast members playing the police Captain and Katrina Crane. I can't say much about Katrina as we don't see much of her in the show except in flashbacks or when she visits Crane or Abby. But I am familiar with the actor who plays captain Frank Irving. Orlando Jones. I have seen him in a movie called Primeval, I'm not sure if you're familiar with it, but he was a good cast member in that film. He played a very jokester role and was making most of the puns in the movie. In sleepy hollow he plays the skeptic serious police captain who throughout the first 6-7 episodes was trying to maintain his skepticism and grasp on reality while the mysterious cases following the rise of the headless horseman appeared. I am quite impressed that he could play two opposite roles like that.
Of course this show has graphics and stunts. The graphics aren't that many but the makeup and costumes is very well done. But of course I won't know anymore until further on in the show.
Overall I think that so far this show is really good, quite grasping, and I can't wait to finish the season. I wonder what they will use in the storyline after the horseman is done with. Will just have to wait and see.
So I hope you guys liked this review! I gotta say its good to be back. And I cannot wait to post for Friday. Why? Because it is going to be the first chapter of my first ever Fanfiction! I don't want to spoil what its about but let's just say it has to do with a Disney movie and a Dreamworks movie. I'm so excited and I am honestly really pleased with the first chapter I wrote. I'm hoping you guys will give me feed back on it so I know that I should definitely continue the Fanfic. So that's all for today! I hope it pleased all of you.
