Hello and welcome to another Review Wednesday! (on Thursday...sorry). I know its late, again, but I was so tired today and had a long nap and was studying and all that senioritis stuff. Anyways, today's review is a movie! The second Thor film to be exact. Let's begin shall we?
I thought this movie was much better than the first one. Firstly because there was much more action! More fight scenes! More excitement! I was completely grasped by it, even the second time. The first film didn't have the same effect on me. I payed attention the first time. But after the second time I just stopped caring. This one however, was the complete opposite.
The story is also much better this time. Of course the proper movie viewing sequence would be the first Thor movie, then The Avengers, and then Thor: The Dark world. Just so you don't get lost in some of the references in this film. Anyways, this story had much more suspense, more drama, more tragedy, and of course more humor as all Marvel films must have. I found myself laughing in this film more than the last one. I was also brought to tears a couple of times, and during all this I was at the edge of my seat. So far so good.
Now, on to the characters. Definitely the same original characters were featured in this film, with maybe one actor switch. Also, there was more dialogue for the side characters in this film, for example Lady Siv and Queen Friga. (I don't know if I spelled their names correctly so bare with me). And of course this film had its chameos and special features. Stan Lee, as in all of his films, was of course featured. And, surprisingly, another main character in one of the films I've mentioned (will not say his name on account of forbidding spoilers for those who haven't seen the movie). And also more chemistry between two of the main characters Thor and his love interest Jane Foster.
Speaking of chemistry, this movie showed more romantic scenes between the two lovebirds. They were star-crossed lovers at the begin of the film (literally space was the distance between them) and Thor showed more longing for his love interest than I'd expected. Although it was not much as I don't really find the actor starring as Thor all that good of an actor (my personal thought so don't take it as an offense or as me bashing his career).
Now, I decided to give Loki, the third main character, a whole segment of his own, since I thought he was much more elaborated in this film. Many would think that this character was nothing more than a psychopath who was greedy for the throne and filled with blind hatred. But he is in fact much more complex than he seems. Along side this madness of his, there is some sanity, towards the one he held closest to his heart, his mother. Along with the hatred he felt towards his father, their was pain, from the lie he lived as a child, him not being the son of his parents, nor the rightful heir to the throne. Along side his greed, there was a glimmer of selflessness (you'll understand this part when you see the movie), but for those who have seen it, you may think he does these selfless acts based on his bigger scheme, but I see that there is a part of him that still is good. He may not show it merely to maintain the facade he currently has. Loki, by far, was the most interesting character in this movie. He was also excellently and brilliantly portrayed by the actor starring as him. You could see every side to him in his eyes.
And finally, this movie had a couple of surprising twists to it. Not naming them. But I didn't expect as much cliffhangers as there was featured in this film. This of course left me eager to see the next sequel.
