Hey guys and welcome to another dose of moi! Sorry its been a while. I'm terrible at commitments. Its probably why I'm still single. xD Just kidding! Hahahahaha hahaha haha ha h.....
Well enough about me! *phew* Let's get down to the subject at hand. Today's topic is *drum roll*...
Moral Absolutism, you are the winner!!!
"What's moral absolutism?" Well allow me to elaborate for you, my dear readers. Moral absolutism is best defined as the ethical belief that there are absolute standards against which moral questions can be judged, and that certain actions are right or wrong, regardless of the context of the act. And yes, I did just copy that word for word from a dictionary. (Don't judge) Allow me to give you two examples of moral absolutism.
The first is the one and only Martin Luther King Junior. You all must know what he's done for humanity. For those of you who don't, he was an activist for African American human rights. And because of him, African Americans are no longer slaves nor are they anything less than others' equals. Now some people completely question every good thing he's ever done. And all for the following reason. Because he cheated on his wife.
The second is the one and, thankfully, only Adolf Hitler. You all most assuredly know what he's done to humanity. Basically, he attempted to annihilate all categories of human beings he deemed to be unfit or weak for humanity, which were mostly Jewish people, but it also included cripples, and almost most of those who weren't Nazis. Some people also question every act of murder and bad thing he did, because he loved animals. Very much and believed in animal rights.
Now lets take both of these and see what is common. First an entire event full of actions that define a human being is being put into question over one small aspect of a person. Second, that small aspect is also being measured as equally effective as those huge events. And third, these are two historical figures, with their definitions being put to the question.
Let's analyze MLK junior's situation shall we? After all the good he did, its being questioned over the fact that he committed adultery. Now the fact that something like this is reason enough that MLK junior is a bad person just irks me. Because this just shows how human he is. He made a mistake. I don't give adultery a pass of course, that was a bad decision, but one bad decision doesn't erase all of the good decisions you've made. People make mistakes. Look at it this way: there is not one person currently on this earth that has not made mistakes, even one mistake. And if we were defined by our mistakes, we would all be bad people.
Now on to Hitler. The people who do the most evil are the ones who don't question whether their acts are good or evil. Some people know what they're doing is just bad and continue to do it and some people think the bad stuff that they're doing is actually good and is helping or making a difference. Its the same comparison between people who murder for the fun of it and people who murder the people they think/know are bad people, its murder in both cases, therefore bad in both cases. In the case of Adolf, people thought that maybe he wasn't bad because he believes in something so good like animal rights. Now what I call that is an aspect of his personality. Some people despise the human race but adore animals. But that doesn't justify committing evil in the world. Look at it like this: If every bad person did one good thing in this case, despite all the horrible things they've done, they'd automatically become good people. So convicted murderers, thieves, rapists, all they would have to do is decide to throw a piece of trash in the trash bin and not on the street, and they'd be instantly acquitted for all there crimes.
Disclaimer: I don't claim to personally know what all of the things that MLK junior and Adolf Hitler have done in the past, nor will I ever know.
Now the lesson to be learned here is: DON'T JUDGE. Its is not your place to judge someone by only one thing they've done or by the first thing you have heard/seen them do. You know why? Because there is no way you will ever, and I mean EVER know what they've done, what they've thought about doing, or what they've decided not to do. You will never be able to know the full aspect. The One and Only who can judge people for everything they are is God. And I say that as a fact, not just as religious verbatim. Because it is absolutely true. Besides, the human brain can't handle all that information, not even a fraction of it.
So just don't judge. Don't stop being nice to someone because they were said to have bullied someone in the 4th grade. That person probably had their own problems and you being nice to them may help them come around. Don't trust someone because they did one nice thing for you before, because some people have hidden agendas. Don't assume that the first dog crying you hear is your neighbor abusing they're dog, who you may not know is actually a volunteer at an animal shelter. In the end, you need to focus on yourself. Be the best you you can be. Help people no matter what they look like or what they do. If not for them, then at least for yourself. And leave the judgments to the One who's supposed to do it.
Well, I hope you absorbed some good pieces of information, and actually learned something. After all, that is the entire purpose. I'll try to post as much as I can in the upcoming summer vacation.
